Ministry Types

Ministries must first be enabled from Settings → Enable Features. Once on, you'll see both a Ministries and a Ministry Types item in the sidebar.

Ministry Types define the categories your ministries fall under — for example Departments, Committees, or Offices. Each type has a Membership Rule:

  • Multiple memberships allowed — a member can belong to more than one ministry of this type.
  • Single membership only — a member may only belong to one ministry of this type at a time.

Creating a ministry

Go to Ministries and create a new one under the appropriate Ministry Type — for example a "Choir" ministry under "Departments". This page is used to manage ministries, departments, committees, offices, and other groups your church runs.

Assigning members

Members are assigned to a ministry from their own profile, in the Groups & Affiliations section — the same place used when adding a new member. If the ministry's type only allows a single membership, Steward will prevent you from assigning the member to a second ministry of that type.

Use Group Membership in Reports to see how members are distributed across your ministries. Next, see how your church tracks pledges and payments in Financials.
