Adding a new member

Go to Members in the sidebar, then click Add New Member. The form is split into sections — you don't have to fill in everything at once, but a name and phone number are enough to get started.

  • Profile Picture — optional photo, shown across the member's profile.
  • Personal Information — name, date of birth, gender, marital status.
  • Extended Member Records — occupation and other background details.
  • Contact & Location — phone number, email, address.
  • Church Affiliation — the branch the member belongs to and their join date.
  • Groups & Affiliations — the Bible Class and any ministries they're part of.
  • Emergency Contact — a contact person in case of emergency.
  • Sacraments — baptism, confirmation, and similar records.
  • Member Portal Access — whether this member can sign in to the Member Portal.

Click Create Member to save. Steward assigns the member a sequential ID automatically, using the prefix set during onboarding.

Grouping members into families

Under Members → Families, you can group related members — a household — under one family record. This makes it easier to see relationships at a glance and to report on a household's giving as a unit.

Open a family record to add or remove members from it. A member can only belong to one family at a time.

Bible Classes

Bible Classes (found under Members → Bible Classes, on the Classes Management page) let you organise members by the class they attend — for example Sunday Morning Class or Youth Class.

Create a class, give it a name, and assign members to it from the class page or from each member's Groups & Affiliations section. Use Class Distribution in Reports to see how members are spread across classes.

Upcoming birthdays

The Birthdays view under Members lists everyone with a birthday coming up, based on the date of birth entered on their profile. Steward can also send an automatic birthday SMS — see Automatic birthday messages.

Next, if your church has more than one location, set up Branches. Otherwise, move on to Ministries.
